Lijia—Shanmei Trail

The Lijia-Shanmei Trail is also called Li(jia)mei Ancient Trail or Guishan Ancient Trail. Located in Alishan Township, it connects the two Tsou Settlements in Lijia and Shanmei. It used to be an important route taken by Han interpreters to make transactions between indigenous people and Han people in Qing Dynasty and also the only road to reach Lijia, Shanmei and Xinmei Settlements before highways were built. The trail passes the Lijia Ravine, Lijia Waterfall, Longfeng Valley, Xiangshan, Zengwen River and Danayi Valley. Unfortunately, some sections have been destroyed after they were hit by a number of typhoons and earthquakes. Currently, only the section between Lijia and Lijia Waterfall is open to traffic.
