Streamed through by Fuyuan Creek, Fuyuan National Forest Recreation Area boasts an extensive mountain trail system with Long-Ying Suspension Bridge and Fuyuan Waterfall hidden deep within. The environment is serene, perfect for bird- and butterfly-watching, taking a forest bath, as well as hot spring bath, offering visitors diverse touring experiences.
Approximately a one-hour drive from Hualien City will take you to the Recreation Area also reputed as the “Butterfly Valley”. Formerly the east endpoint of “Kuanmen Historic Trail” dated back to the Qing dynasty; it is now a pleasant artificial forest featuring camphor trees aged around 40 years. As for the virgin forest, there are representative tree species of low altitude forest such as Subcostate Crape Myrtle and Thick-fruited Sloanea, together with the dense layers of epiphytes, as if you are in the forest of the movie Avatar.
The Recreation Area boasts a rich ecology. The trees beside the trails have clinging rare Lomariopsis cochinchinensis and Weeping Phlegmariurus, amidst which there are low-altitude bird species such as Taiwan Blue Magpie and Taiwan Hwamei (Garrulax taewanus). Green-backed Tits and Yellow Tits migrate here in the winter time as well. The various species of elegant butterflies in abundance, as well as the fireflies in spring and autumn nights, are among the most splendid treasures of Fuyuan!

Tourists and the public who need to smoke are encouraged to smoke in the smoking area in accordance with the regulations. Smoking in a no-smoking area will violate the provisions of Article 40, Paragraph 2 of the Tobacco Harm Prevention Act and may be fined NT$2,000 to NT$10,000. |

The Creek Trail 2 goes up along Fuyuan Creek. The scenery along the route is dominated by the Fuyuan Valley. The huge rocks, deep pools, waterfalls and the azure blue water make the scenery very attractive. The Fuyuan Waterfall at the end of the trail is unique and beautiful. In addition to enjoying the entire waterfall, you can also overlook the entire Fuyuan Valley from the Longyin Suspension Bridge, and see the coastal mountains in the distance.

At the upper reaches of Fuyuan Creek, a gentle and continuous, silver-thread-like Longyin Waterfall cascades down from a great height, which is quite spectacular. The 30-meter-high waterfall produces a high level of negative ions that can purify the body and mind and eliminate worries. The golden sunlight shines on the waterfall, creating a dreamy seven-color rainbow.

Longyin Suspension Bridge (closed for renovation)

Located at the intersection of the Huanxi Trail and Huanshan Trail, there is a majestic Longyin Suspension Bridge. The Longyin Suspension Bridge, which was newly renovated at the end of 2011, is 156 meters long. The results of ecological surveys pointed out that the south bank slope is the area with the richest ecological species in the amusement area. After considering the management characteristics of the amusement area, a lighter suspension bridge was used. Under the control condition that the bridge will not be opened to traffic when the wind is strong, no wind-resistant cables are installed to reduce the intrusion of the project into the forest. While enjoying the Longyin Waterfall, visitors can occasionally feel the cool breeze blowing through the valley.

This area was formed by the metamorphism of the original sedimentary rocks and volcanic rocks into large and small stones. After planning and organization, it became a stone park.
