Fuyuan National Forest Recreation Area
Fuyuan National Forest Recreation Area is traversed by the Fuyuan River, featuring a network of winding mountain trails. At its deepest point are the Longyin Suspension Bridge, Fuyuan Suspension Bridge, and Longyin Waterfall, offering a tranquil and secluded experience. It combines birdwatching, butterfly watching, forest bathing, and hot springs, providing visitors with a diverse range of recreational experiences.
About an hour's drive from Hualien City, you'll reach Fuyuan National Forest Recreation Area, also known as "Butterfly Valley." This area was once the eastern terminus of the Qing Dynasty's "Guanmen Ancient Road," and now boasts large tracts of 40-year-old camphor trees, creating a beautiful and pleasant landscape. The primeval forest features representative low-altitude forest species such as *Ligusticum striatum* and *Monkey Delight*, with abundant epiphytes adding to its Avatar-like forest beauty.
Located in the foothills of the Central Mountain Range, the park is rich in birdlife, making it a renowned birdwatching destination in Hualien. Notable birds include the Hualien County Bird (Willow Bird), the Five-colored Bird, the Yellow-bellied Blue-crowned Crane, the Formosan Blue Magpie, the Grey-throated Mink, and the Great Crested Vulture, which frequently soars overhead. In addition, the best time to see butterflies is during the spring and summer months (March to August), and the diverse butterfly resources have earned it the nickname "Butterfly Valley". The park's humid and pollution-free environment has resulted in a diverse range of fireflies in Fuyuan. The Black-winged Firefly appears from March to June and the Taiwan Mountain Firefly from October to December, making it a popular spot for firefly watching in recent years.

Longyin Waterfall
Source 花蓮分署
At the upper reaches of Fuyuan Creek, a gentle and continuous, silver-thread-like Longyin Waterfall cascades down from a great height, which is quite spectacular. The 30-meter-high waterfall produces a high level of negative ions that can purify the body and mind and eliminate worries. The golden sunlight shines on the waterfall, creating a dreamy seven-color rainbow.

Longyin Suspension Bridge
Source 花蓮分署
Located at the intersection of the Huanxi Trail and Huanshan Trail, there is a majestic Longyin Suspension Bridge. The Longyin Suspension Bridge, which was newly renovated at the end of 2011, is 156 meters long. The results of ecological surveys pointed out that the south bank slope is the area with the richest ecological species in the amusement area. After considering the management characteristics of the amusement area, a lighter suspension bridge was used. Under the control condition that the bridge will not be opened to traffic when the wind is strong, no wind-resistant cables are installed to reduce the intrusion of the project into the forest. While enjoying the Longyin Waterfall, visitors can occasionally feel the cool breeze blowing through the valley.
Featured Landscape
Stone Park
This area was formed by the metamorphism of the original sedimentary rocks and volcanic rocks into large and small stones. After planning and organization, it became a stone park.
Featured Landscape
Fuyuan Suspension Bridge
The Fuyuan Suspension Bridge is located at the end of the main trail and the starting point of the Huanxi Trail 2. It spans the Fuyuan Creek and connects the north and south banks of the creek. The beauty of the Fuyuan Creek can be seen from the suspension bridge.
