Danongdafu Forest Park
Located in Guangfu Township of Hualien County, “Danongdafu Flatland Forest Park” is situated in the East Rift Valley with the Central Range and the Coastal Range on either side. Traveling down south along the Valley about half way through, one will see a vast, endless forest after passing the chimney of Hualien Sugar Factory. Taiwan was a beautiful island with forests everywhere. Yet, the centuries-long development has forced the primitive forests to retreat from the plains. Since the 21st century began, the Forestry and Nature Conservation Agency has been actively engaged in reforestation in the plain area. After a decade of cultivation, the citizens of Hualien now enjoy the very first flatland forest, the Danongdafu Flatland Forest Park.
Situated in between the Central Range and the Coastal Range, the Park has an area of 1,250 ha, equivalent to 48 Daan Parks, which makes it truly a super carbon-adsorbing oxygen generator. There are over a million trees of nearly 20 different kinds commonly seen at low altitude. They are pretty, useful and close to our lives.

“Lawn as the sun, and pond as the moon.” The Moon Pond is the storm water detention facility of the Park, and an enjoyable recreational spot as it is artfully integrated with the surroundings. The Sun Lawn was the main venue for the Balloon Festival in 2013, which added more hues to the Forest Park.
