In most parts of this area, there are planted trees such as Camphor, Formosan Ash, and Mahogany. Looking out from the suspension bridge to the light yellow and green of the lush forest is a pleasant view. The natural forest is dominated by secondary forest made up mostly of Ficus such as Ficus Irisana, Ficus Nervosa, Konish Fig, and the special 17-White Bark Fig. The White Bark Fig is called “Thousand Root Ficus,” but in fact, has a total of 20 root pillars of the same size. The magnificent branches and winding vines on the trunks of the giant Sour Rattan and rare Rattan Fern are amazing phenomenons that can be used as examples in nature education. White Bark Fig is a species typical of southern Taiwan and the most beautiful one here. Ficus Irisanas are old trees with plate root located at the junction of the three trails. There are also more than 200 varieties of medicinal plants in the botanical garden, as well as dozens of tropical plants.
The most commonly seen mammal is the monkey, while the most commonly seen reptile is the Tree Lizard. There are 154 varieties of butterflies, of which the majority are Papillion, Danaidae and Pieris. Especially in April to May of each year, Moire Pieris gather on the sandy river bank and create a most attractive view. As a result of dense forest, this area has numerous wild birds, including forest birds and stream birds that are representative of low-elevation areas. Even more amazing, is the fact that maroon orioles show up regularly. Since the sea is not far from here, seabirds sometimes forage in the river. The Crested Serpent Eagle is commonly seen flying over this area and in nearby Leshan. However, the most spectacular view is of the mass migration of the Grey Frog Hawks, Grey-faced Buzzard Eagle and Sparrow Hawk during the autumn migration season.
Mountains, streams, waterfalls, hot springs, forest, trees, butterflies, birds, and the suspension bridge make up a landscape that offers hiking, forest bathing, bird-watching, butterfly-touring, tree-touring, and nature-trail, picnic, and water fun to visitors.
